OregonI lived in Eugene for nearly three years. At first I thought I wanted to move near the mountains, pine trees, and rivers . . . but I changed my mind. Why? Because I forgot that the reasons that those trees grow and that those rivers flow is that IT MUST RAIN. And in Eugene, Oregon, . . . it rains the majority of the year. In fact, the year that I arrived in Eugene (1992), it not only rained nearly consistently for 9 months straight, but the following summer was so wet it was deemed "The Summer That Never Was" by the Willamette Valley media. I loved the Oregon Coast, though . . . and this is one of my favorite spots there: The Hecete Head Lighthouse. There is a really lovely Victorian-era homestead located a short hop into the canyon from the lighthouse itself . . . and, interestingly enough, it is rumored to be haunted. Of all the bad times I remember in Oregon, my failing business, sucky job, dissatisfication with the people and general culture, and ultimately my illness and divorce, . . . I remember the beautiful times I spent on the Oregon Coast . . . with coastal scenery only rivaled by Big Sur. I met a lot of great friends in Oregon, however . . . and so it wasn't entirely a failed experiment. It's just that I recommend it as a nice place to visit . . . but you'd probably only want to visit in mid-June. More InformationFor more information, click on one of the following links . . .
